Blog – From 3D design to the actual project site

My Quest Experience

Ashutosh Sabnis went on a Quest experience from India to the UK.

London CyclingWhy did I apply for a Quest

The reason why I applied for a Quest was that as a BIM Technician I construct projects virtually on the computer. For this I am using BIM Tools such as Revit/Civil3D. For me it was an amazing experience to see that it actually is being built in the real world and that I was able to understand the build ability challenges which are faced at the actual project site.

Highlight of my Quest experience

Picture1The highlight of my Quest was definitely meeting the Mayflower WTW design team. As mentioned I work with programs such as Revit and Civil3D. Revit is a building information modeling software for architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors. It allows users to design a building and structure and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the building model’s database. Revit is 4D BIM capable with tools to plan and track various stages in the building’s lifecycle, from concept to construction and later demolition. To actually see the team working on the site on the designs that I created via Revit was amazing to see.

My learnings and recommendations

Picture2Visiting the Mayflower WTW construction site was extraordinary. I made me understand the build ability issues and it made me ask more practical questions while I created the BIM model. Meeting the UK colleagues in person gave me a real understanding of their culture which makes it more easier for future interaction.

I would recommend others to meet as many people as possible in your field of expertise, share & gain knowledge and make best out of the trip.
