BLOG – Cardiff-based Arif Islam got enlightened during his Quest to the city of Angels
Quest is an international transfer program which connects Arcadians from all over the world. Quest is sponsored by the Lovinklaan Foundation. Every week we are highlighting one of the stories our employees who went on an exchange. In this blogpost we cover the Quest story of Arif Islam who traveled from Cardiff, UK to Los Angeles, US.
“Quest has allowed me to learn a lot and expand my network, while seeing a different part of the world!”
Why did I apply for a Quest
My name is Arif Islam and I traveled from Cardiff, in the UK , to Los Angeles for my Quest experience. I applied for the Arcadis Quest program as it provided me with the opportunity to share knowledge with an Arcadis office in a different region and to gain insight on how things work in the same industry, but from a global perspective.
Highlight of my Quest experience
The highlights of my Quest include visiting some of the sites of the largest Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) schemes. Another highlight was the opportunity to discuss projects with the same drivers as here in the UK, and see what different methods are being used in the USA to address these. The view from the office was great too!
My Quest in one word
“Enlightening”
Learnings and experiences
I learned a lot about applying different practices while working on my projects. I also gained a greater appreciation of Arcadis as a global network, and have been able to share knowledge and ideas with colleagues in the LA office, even after the Quest was over.
I highly recommend doing an Arcadis Quest as it will greatly improve your network globally, and allow you to see and experience projects that you wouldn’t in your home region.
