The Quest experience from Ariane

Quest is an international transfer program which connects Arcadians from all over the world. Quest is sponsored by the Lovinklaan Foundation. Every week we are highlighting the story of one of our employees who went on an exchange. In this blogpost we are sharing the experience of Ariane Ganzaga who is working for the São Paulo office in Brazil.  For her Quest experience she traveled to Santiago, Chile with the ambition to work on improving their collaboration.

“The collaborative work we did was a good start to continue to work together in the future!”

Why did I apply for Quest

I applied for the Quest exchange with the purpose of improving and intensifying the collaboration between Arcadis Chile and Arcadis Brazil. Our countries have plenty in common and together we complement and reinforce each other.

The Highlight of my Quest experience

I was working with the Brazilian team on the Metro project (Line 3 Extension Quilicura). When comparing the geological and geo-technical characteristics between Brazil and Chile we see differences. However, in this specific project we faced a challenge that is common in Brazil: the water table on the surface. Together we simulated tunnels models of the project with water flow. Besides working on the development of these models we achieved an important goal: this collaborative work was a good start to continue to work together in the future!

Besides working, I had the opportunity during the weekend to get know the very beautiful city Santiago and O vale Nevado “The Snow Valley” (the fact that it was without snow didn’t impact on its beauty). In addition to that, I experienced that Chileans are a very welcoming and receptive people.

My Quest in one word

“It was a wonderful experience!”

My learnings and recommendations

I would say that is important to prepare yourself for this journey. It’s important to understand it is a great professional experience you’re about to face. Open your mind to absorb as many information (about the country and their way of life) as you can.

When you are planning your trip ask your host office about the highlights in the city and request for recommendations regarding hotels. As you will be in a different environment, it is important to ask for tips. The main tip is: Enjoy your Quest exchange! It’s absolutely worth it!
