Where have I worked with Arcadis? Birmingham, UK; London, UK; Singapore, Asia

I started with EC Harris back in June 2012 on a Summer Placement in our Birmingham office, and four years later I’m writing this from Arcadis Singapore! Having worked for a year in Birmingham as an Assistant Consultant alongside University, I spent the last two and a half years as an Analyst and then Consultant in Business Transformation. It was during this time that I was selected for the third Global Shapers program which was held in Chicago – a highlight in my career to date.

HannahSenior2I still cannot put my finger on what made it so special, but there’s something about Global Shapers that no one can quite explain. The organization of the event, the challenging work, the pace, the people – it went so quickly, but we all gained so much. Above all else, it proved to me just what I and the team could achieve in such a short period of time, if you really put your mind to it and play to everybody’s strengths. The network you create is quite remarkable, both with the AGLF and your peers. Even now, a year and a half later, our Global Shaper’s community speaks regularly; there have been meet ups, emails for advice and guidance, and friendships which have taken people all over the world.

HannahSenior1The opportunities we have since been presented with have been beyond expectation. Of course it is still very much about being a self-starter and leveraging the experience, but we as Arcadians tend to be good at that. We each learned so much about other cultures and life in Arcadis outside of the UK – we are after all, a Global company.

So where am I now? Well, I took the ‘Global company’ literally! Using my Business Transformation experience in Change Management along with my Global network, I am currently working in Singapore, leading the Change workstream for the Business Blueprint implementation within Asia. I feel very lucky to have been able to take on such an opportunity and really understand Arcadis as a whole. It is no small feat, and there will be many challenges along the way, but it is exciting to think that we will soon be one harmonized business, using best practice from all around the world.

I don’t know what’s in store next, but that’s all part of the fun working in such a dynamic company. What I do know is if you’re given the opportunity to be a Global Shaper, grab it with both hands, dive in and really make the most of it. It could be the beginning!
