Rajesh KC shares his Quest Experience

Quest is an international transfer program which connects Arcadians from all over the world. Quest is sponsored by the Lovinklaan Foundation. Every week we are highlighting one of the stories of one of our employees who went on an exchange. In this blogpost Rajesh KC tells us about his Quest experience to Doha in Qatar. He usually works as an CAD Technician in GAC Bengaluru India.

Why did I apply for a Quest

We in GEC, Bengaluru design wet utilities like Foul Sewer, Treated Sewage Effluent network for Doha, Qatar and deliver it to our Lead office in Doha. Therefore I applied for a Quest, specifically to Doha. I was looking forward to interact with lead office design team and the site team, to understand the workflow and client requirements. Furthermore, I wanted to visit the construction site and understand site issues that have an impact on the design of Arcadis and the way it is coordinating with its client & contractors, and understand the advanced technology used in construction methods. Learning more about these details can be very useful while designing utilities in our office to save time, energy and meet client requirements.

“The Quest exchange enabled us to save time and energy between GEC, Bengaluru and our lead office in Doha”

Highlight of my quest experience

With the colleagues in Doha I was able to discuss the design challenges with the lead office directly. We got an opportunity to visit most of the construction sites. I got to better understand the importance of following safety culture in our work, as well as understand the terrain conditions and other various aspects of Civil/Environmental Engineering. Additionally, we got an opportunity to visit “Kahrama Mega reservoir”, this is one of the biggest Water Storage reservoirs in the world designed by Arcadis, GEC, Bengaluru and Pumping Station “PS70”. It is one of the deepest foul water pumping station in the world.

My Quest in one word

Knowledgeable and enlightening experience.

Learnings and experiences

There are some important take aways and learnings from the Quest exchange that I will apply personally to my day to day work. In general one could say that:

  1. The Quest program paved way for better understanding of the work procedures implemented in our system.
  2. Better co-ordination between the two offices and teams involved, TSE Modeling team in LO and Design office in GEC, Bengaluru
  3. Better understanding of client requirements and deliverables through conversations
  4. Through the exchange we can avoid issues in the initial design state because we now have a better understanding of work procedures at the construction site
  5. We where able to sharing knowledge about designs and data.
