Blog – Absorbing knowledge in Amsterdam

28 Julho 2017

Quest is an international transfer program which connects Arcadians from all over the world. Quest is sponsored by the Lovinklaan Foundation. Every week we are highlighting one of the stories our employees who went on an exchange. In this blogpost we cover the Quest story of Gerly Lanto who traveled from Makati City to the Arcadis HQ in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Why did I apply for a Quest

I applied for this Quest with the purpose of intensifying the collaboration between SAP BPC team in Amsterdam and Manila. I wanted to have a thorough knowledge about SAP BPC and to apply and share it with my colleagues here in the Philippines. Aside from that, I wanted to gain new insights, have a a unique experience and discuss challenges we are facing in Manila with colleagues from Arcadis NV.

“The real reason for a Quest is always self-knowledge”

Highlight of my quest experience

With the support of my colleagues in Arcadis NV, I was able to learn a lot of things about SAP BPC. Additionally, I got the opportunity to conduct a SAP BPC training in Arcadis Germany and got the chance to discuss some issues we are facing here in GEC Manila. During my Quest exchange I have met a lot of people and got to experience their culture. Besides working, I also had the opportunity to go to some cities during the weekend. Explore the beautiful city of Amsterdam and nearby surroundings.

My Quest in one word

“AWESOME!”

Learnings and experiences

There are three things that I have learned from this Quest experience; Collaborating, Connecting and Adapting. I would say that it is important that we understand how to collaborate with other colleagues across boarder, so that we can easily connect with them. And in that way, we can easily adapt to their culture and behavior.

I would highly recommend that when you are planning to go on a Quest, you should take some time to prepare this journey. Be aware that it is a great professional experience and absorb as much knowledge as possible. Aside from learning, enjoy your journey. Always remember, it is an AWESOME experience.
