The Quest experience from Rahul

Quest is an international transfer program which connects Arcadians from all over the world. Quest is sponsored by the Lovinklaan Foundation. Every week we are highlighting the story of one of our employees who went on an exchange. In this blogpost we are sharing the experience of Rahul Anand a Senior Project manager, travelling from the Bangalore office in India to Berchem, Belgium.

“I was overwhelmed by the warm hospitality, friendliness, and support of my colleagues which made my stay in Belgium even more memorable!”

My visit to Belgium through QUEST program in December 2016 was an eye-opener, welcoming and knowledgeable trip. The idea behind the visit was to share and understand the differences in work culture, processes and compare the technical know-how between Belgium and GEC India team.

To sit together in the same room and have personal interactions with the team members from two different countries is a step forward in building long lasting relationships. It develops trust and confidence to collaborate and execute complex projects as one team irrespective of any geographical boundaries.

This trip helped us to understand and discuss the challenges from one another in depth, although these challenges sounded sometimes quite obvious to other, it had a huge impact on our approach.  For example, being from two non-English speaking nations and working on projects together itself could be a big challenge. Through this trip we were able to come to find some common grounds in for the English terminologies we will use moving forward during the day-to-day interactions between the teams. We are already seeing the advantages of this. Likewise, collectively we were able to identify, understand, and develop new processes and programs to the bridge gaps between the teams and its members.

Alongside the work I got some opportunities to stroll around the ancient yet magnanimous cities of Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels and enjoy the famous Belgium flavors of Waffles, drinks, chocolates and the historically significant architectural marvels which made this trip as one of the unforgettable memories.

Personally I was overwhelmed by the warm hospitality, friendliness, help and support by each and everyone of our colleagues which made my stay in Belgium even more memorable. Lovinklaan’s QUEST program is indeed a great platform for all the Arcadians not only to develop technical acumen but importantly to build long lasting relationship by sharing and understanding each other’s emotions, cultures and values.
